Up until now, the scariest thing at Fisherman's Wharf has been the infamous Bushman lunging out from behind a trash can, flailing fearsome tree branches (where does he get those, anyway?) and growling "Argh!" at passing tourists.

In honor of the late Dominic (Dom) DiMaggio, the DiMaggio family has created a plaque to hang on the DiMaggio building at Fisherman's Wharf. The plaque tells the history of the building within Fisherman’s Wharf and Dominic’s special relationship with both the neighborhood and the city of San Francisco. The DiMaggio restaurant was founded by Dominic and his five brothers, three of which played major league baseball, including former New York Yankee, Joe DiMaggio. Dominic, who played for the Boston Red Sox, was admired and respected for his career both on and off the baseball field. After years running the DiMaggio restaurant in San Francisco, Dominic later returned to the East Coast to be near family. As his son, Paul DiMaggio Jr., reflects “his true love was always the City by the Bay.” Dominic’s memory will now live on in his favorite city both as the DiMaggio restaurant building and as this plaque which will recount Dominic’s unique story for visitors to the neighborhood for years to come.

Set to open June 26, the San Francisco Dungeon is the newest and spookiest addition to Fisherman’s Wharf. The San Francisco Dungeon fills the space formerly used by the Wax Museum. We popped in for a preview tour on Wednesday, and I’ll admit it: I screamed bloody murder.

Some news for your Friday fry-day: 3 Potato 4, which landed in SF with a mid-Market outpost about eight months ago, is opening a second location in Fisherman's Wharf (2800 Leavenworth St.) today. Expect baked fries with toppings like aztec ketchup, curry mayo, and vegan bacon bits, plus vegan soups and vegan chocolate frozen bananas. It's right around the corner from SF's lone In-N-Out, should you crave a healthier side for your Double-Double. [EaterWire]
