SFMTA WEEKEND TRANSIT AND TRAFFIC ADVISORY - FLEET WEEK
Traffic Advisory for Fleet Week
Fleet Week 2012 takes place from October 4th - October 8th. Also taking place during this time is the America's Cup World Series races, Giants games, a 49ers game, the Italian Heritage Parade (North Beach), the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park, and the Castro Street Fair, plus a handful of other events. Given the unprecedented number of events over Fleet Week, please make note of the following traffic advisories and consider taking public transit or biking/walking to all Fleet Week activities.
Lane Closure - Embarcadero
Where:
The Northbound Embarcadero (parking lane and most easterly lane of traffic only) between Washington and Bay Streets; and Bay Street (both parking lanes only) between The Embarcadero and Mason Street.
When:
Saturday, October 6, 2012, 12:01 AM to Monday, October 7, 2012, 6 AM.
Please note that the main event viewing areas are along San Francisco’s northern and eastern waterfront, including Marina Green, Aquatic Park, Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Piers 30-32 and Pier 80. All of the waterfront locations can be reached via public transit, bike or by foot. Roads along the northern waterfront will be very busy and parking will be strictly managed to avoid local congestion.
Riding Muni:
Muni offers extra service on several bus lines that serve the waterfront during Fleet Week. For example, you can take the limited-stop 47L on Grove Street from the Civic Center BART station to Marina Green. You can also hop on the 47 from Caltrain to the Marina. And, enjoy views of the waterfront on the FS shuttle, E or F line to Fisherman's Wharf or the T line to Pier 80. Cable cars will be very crowded, but note that the California Cable Car Line near the Ferry Building and Embarcadero BART generally has a much shorter wait than the lines on Powell Street.
