The Fisherman's Wharf PIERsafe Committee and the SFFD Present:

Spring 2014 NERT Training - Registration is now open for April 16, 23 and 30

Neighborhood Emergency Response Team (NERT) is a free training program for individuals, neighborhood groups and community-based organizations in San Francisco. Through this program, individuals will learn the basics of personal preparedness and prevention. The training also includes hands-on disaster skills that will help individuals respond to a personal emergency as well as act as members of a neighborhood response team.

NERT was created in direct response to the aftermath that followed the 1989 San Francisco earthquake. In the event of another major disaster, it is highly likely that first responders will be overwhelmed, leaving many citizens on their own for the first 72 hours or longer after the emergency.  The goal of NERT is to teach as many San Franciscan's as possible that, with basic training,  they can make a difference in the lives of their families and others when, not if, they are affected by a disaster large or small.

The only requirements to become a NERT volunteer are being at least 18 years old and having a desire to become active in the community. NERT provides individuals with the opportunity to become a member of an elite group of trained citizen first responders who can help save lives. The skills acquired at NERT will help to develop self-confidence and peace of mind, and will make these volunteers valuable assets to their families, coworkers, and neighbors.

The next NERT training will take place on April 16, 23, 30 at the Cannery (Academy of Art University) on the 3rd Floor at 2801 Leavenworth Street.
