The goal of the Transportation Improvement Committee is to help mitigate traffic congestion due to tour operations in the area and to improve vehicle and pedestrian safety while helping to support the continuing success of all tour operators within the Fisherman’s Wharf Area.
The Transportation Improvement Committee meets on an as-needed basis, typically once every two months. All meeting dates will be announced to the community via email, and posted on the FWCBD’s event calendar. Some of the topics that this committee works to address include:
- Standardization of most loading zones to a twenty minute time limit as a means of facilitating safer passenger loading practices and equal opportunity access to municipal loading zones.
- Improved signage to direct tour operators to the appropriate loading, staging, and long-term parking areas.
- Requesting increased enforcement by the San Francisco Police Department and Department of Public Transportation in order to ensure compliance by all operators.
- Create an open dialogue to improve relationships between tour operators, merchants, and residents in the Fisherman’s Wharf community.
