Fisherman’s Wharf and Union Square make a cute couple – they’re promoting romantic things to do in both neighborhoods. 

Fisherman’s Wharf and Union Square SF have announced their newly budding romance shortly after they “matched” on the dating app Tinder. What started as a few friendly messages has now blossomed into a full-on fling. The two districts will be courting throughout the entire month of February.

Since the busy summer season is still months away and the out-of-towners have not flooded the areas yet, these neighborhoods are quelling their lonesome days (and nights) with a little city romance.

The two districts are challenging locals to stray from the typical trendy eatery or neighborhood bar date spots and be a tourist in their own backyard for a change.  Couples are following and interacting with this flirtation on social media using the hashtag #WharfMeetsSquare.

The two have compiled a joint itinerary with some of the most classic romantic spots in the area. Date ideas includes snuggling with your beloved in a Bay-view booth at the old-school seafood establishment, Scoma’s Restaurant, sipping espresso at Bancarella in Union Square Park, “stealing a smooch” in the crystal tubes at the Aquarium of the Bay, and strolling down Maiden Lane, taking in the luxury shops, cafes and bars, among others.

The two neighborhoods are conveniently connected by what they are calling the “Love Line,” a.k.a. cable cars. The districts will be suggesting other off-the-beaten-path date ideas on social media all month long.

Only time will tell what happens after February, but the neighborhoods have reportedly vowed they will not let a lovers’ quarrel interfere with their long-time friendship.

Behind the scenes of this marketing campaigns are the Union Square Business Improvement District and the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District. The two organizations are teaming-up in February to cross-promote the neighborhoods to an often under-represented group, Bay Area locals.

The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District (visitfishermanswharf.com) was founded in November of 2005 by the business and property owners of the San Francisco neighborhood. The district is funded through an annual assessment for 15 years from the property owners. The purpose of the Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District is to preserve and enhance its vast San Francisco waterfront landscape and multi-cultural heritage, while integrating modern efficiencies to enrich the experience of visitors from both near and far.
